How to Get a Million-dollar Ocean View if You Don't Have a Million

Date: 10/19/2005

Dear International Living Reader,

I love Ecuador. The laid-back lifestyle, easy-going residents, perpetual sun, and beauty of the country make this an attractive place to be full- or part-time...a good place to leave the crowds and surround yourself with nature.

Nowhere on the Pacific Ocean enjoys cleaner seas or more exotic sites than Ecuador's Pacific Coast. Yet, the development of this part of the coast is in the authentic, rough and tumble, pre-resort stage.

Because sellers haven't yet realized the potential of the new coast road that replaced the old inland road, you can still get real estate bargains here...with magnificent coastal views.

For example, you can get a five-bedroom, gated and walled house on a 1/2-acre of oceanfront for $185,000. The house has air conditioning, a Jacuzzi, a dish-washer, a washer and dryer, a three-car garage, chauffeur's quarters, additional servant's quarters, a fireplace, a pantry, plenty of counter space in the kitchen, and an upstairs deck. (Click here to see the view from the patio).

Most places of this size and quality on any U.S. coast would cost a million or more.
