Have You Found the Best Beach in Panama Yet?
Date: 12/31/2008
Since I wrote to you about what I (and many Panamanians) consider to be the best beach in Panama, I've had a lot of e-mails looking for more information.
Punta Chame is the first white-sand beach you reach on leaving Panama City.
Traveling on the Pan-American highway, it is roughly 60 miles in total from the city itself. Coming down from the Cerro Campana, an elevated section of the trip, you can see the point stretched out before you.
Being this close to the city means you are not too far from the airport, shopping malls, restaurants, casinos, nightclubs, and medical facilities--including a Johns Hopkins medical center. At the same time, you are away from the noise and traffic that are a mainstay of city living.
Punta Chame has beautiful beaches wrapped around both sides of the peninsula. On one side, you can see the island of Taborcillo, known as John Wayne island (the actor owned it at one point). The other side looks out to open ocean, toward the Gulf of Panama. From the tip of the peninsula you can see Panama City, with its Miami-style skyline.
Things to Do on the Best Beach in Panama
The location is perfect for surfing, windsurfing, kite boarding, sailing, wave runner rides, boat rides, fishing, and diving. Or you can choose to hang out on the beach (like I did), sunbathing, relaxing, maybe having a barbecue.
Punta Chame is in the Arco Seco, the Dry Arch, the area with the lowest rainfall in Panama. It is less humid than Panama City...and of course, there are those ocean breezes.
The apartments at Punta Chame that I told you about (in a development called Sandpiper) are already constructed and are for sale--there are 15 left. These are all three-bedroom, three bathroom, 193-square-meter apartments with a maid's quarters. The social area will have a pool and a gazebo. There are two parking spaces per apartment. The buildings are accessed via a secured gated entrance, with 24-hour security.
The pricing runs from $1,700 to $2,800 per square meter, depending on the location of the apartment.
I hope this answers everyone's questions. But if you have any others, you can contact me through this form.
