Expat's Remorse
Date: 05/31/2004Dear Reader,
Whether you're relocating your expat base or starting afresh, you're going to have second thoughts. And third, and fourth. Friends and family will make excellent arguments for you to stay at home. The days leading up to your departure, you'll be able to think of a hundred reasons to stay, and not one to go.
Go anyway.
We're in the process of moving from Waterford to Paris, our second relocation since leaving the States five years ago. I'm hoping this time will be easier.
We put together this month's print issue with you in mind, to make sure you don't end up with any "Boy, I sure learned from that mistake" stories.
Jocelyn Carnegie takes a break from his usual beat as our Paris real estate expert to find out if it really is possible to live well on a small budget in Tuscany (it is).
We also answer in detail one of our most frequently asked questions: Can you borrow abroad to buy property? If so, who offers financing, and on what terms? We have the answers for our favorite 19 destinations.
Plus: recommended real estate contacts in the Caribbean…seven summer adventures for less than $1,200…the best barge cruises on offer in Europe right now…the best place in Latin America to learn Spanish…and more.
See below for full details about what's in the June print issue.
