What We Haven't Told You About Retiring Abroad...

Why a quarter million
Americans are leaving
the country each year

And how you can do it too

Cancun, Mexico

Dear Reader,

“The drug violence you see on television isn't the real Mexico to me. What you don't hear is, how localized this violence is... it's primarily just along the border.” Glynna Prentice tells us at the Ultimate Event III in Cancun.

“But Mexico is a huge country. It's three times the size of Texas. And the rest of Mexico isn't like that... it's extremely safe.”

Glynna should know. She has lived there for two years, and traveled around the country alone without fear.

“Here, you can live a higher quality of life with less stress and more time to enjoy yourself than you have at home.”

For instance, in Mexico, even families with a modest income have a maid. The cost of living is so low, you can live quite luxuriously on just $2,000 per month.

And government-funded healthcare costs less than $300 per year -- including all your medications at no extra cost.

Glynna briefed us on her experience of moving to and living in Mexico. She's one of an army of overseas experts gathered here at the Ultimate Event III in Cancun Mexico.

We've come here from around the world. Our International Living staff and representatives came from Waterford, Ireland... from Baltimore, Maryland... Florida... Paris, France... Uruguay... Canada... and Panama.

We've gathered 100 of the top experts including Lee A. Harrison, Lief Simon, Robert E. Bauman,  Steenie Harvey, Suzan Haskins & Dan Prescher, Jessica Ramesch, Ronan McMahon, Rich Luchsinger, Gary Scott... and many others.

It's only the third time we've ever hosted such an event. The theme of this year's meeting is, 'Protect Your Future by Looking Outside the U.S. Borders.' That's because the world around us is changing fast. Each year, doors of opportunity are opening in select countries… while doors in others are closing fast.

If you didn't make it to this event, there's still an easy way for you to get all this information. Let me show you how you can get it right now, and what kind of things you will learn...

The top rated overseas haven...

This year, one of the top countries covered was Mexico.

Did you know that as many as one million Americans and half a million Canadians have already made Mexico their home?

“It's easy to get residency in Mexico.” Glynna explained. “I got mine in just two weeks. I didn't even use a lawyer. All I did was walk into the immigration office and asked them, 'What do I need to do?'”

People move to Mexico for many reasons. And in many ways, Mexico is like the US was 50 years ago. Before big government, big business and special interests whittled away the lifestyle our parents took for granted...

In Mexico, people are more family-focused and more relaxed... they don’t worry about random violence like shootings in schools and shopping malls...

Here, children still walk home from school alone and ride bicycles around town... and you can afford to raise a family on one income.

Glynna showed us some of the places she's investigated on Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. These areas are the best place to move to in Mexico right now.

For instance, Merida is a colonial city of about 800,000 people. Here, many expats have been buying up traditional colonial homes.

Prices for these are around as low as $40,000 for an un-renovated 2,000 square foot home with a courtyard. The prices for these homes are so low because Mexicans don't have much interest in them.

The current generation grew up in these kind of homes, and they are more interested in moving into American-style houses in the suburbs.

As a result, many expats have taken on renovating these homes almost as a hobby.

Glynna has renovated the home she bought as well. “It's pretty addictive. I know people who renovate a home they bought at $40,000... then turn around and sell it for $265,000 to other expats moving here.

“And then they do it all over again.”

In fact, Suzan Haskins, who lives in Merida just finished renovating her home last week. She showed us how it cost a fraction of what it would have cost here in the US...

How to renovate your home in Mexico

“Why is Hulio's doctor's bill here?” Suzan Haskins asks her architect.

Suzan and her husband, Dan Prescher, hired the architect to renovate their home in Merida, Mexico.

The renovations are done on a 'cost plus' basis. And the architect -- who is also the contractor -- submits the bills to Suzan at the end of each week.

The architect tells her that one of the workers had a toothache, and had to see the dentist to get a root canal. The bill was for 200 pesos. About $20.

It was a small cost she didn't mind paying. When the renovations started, the workers moved into the home. They strung hammocks in the doorways, and stayed in the house from Monday to Saturday afternoon each week for the following 9 months. That's how long it took to finish the renovations.

Suzan showed us slides of the renovations as time goes on. When the workers dig out the back yard to put in the pool, they use the unearthed rock to build for the rock wall in the the main bathroom. They also put in a waterfall over the pool... and fountain in the second courtyard.

Once the work is done, the house has grown to 6,500 square feet, with three bedrooms, a home office... workout room... four baths and a pool.

“We just moved in last week and we love it.

“The renovations went 20% over budget, mainly with the rising cost of construction materials and upgrades we decided upon along the way. And 20% over deadline.

“But after all is said and done, we're 100% satisfied with our new home.”

During their presentation, Suzan and Dan point out the most common mistakes when renovating a home outside the US. They also showed us how to avoid them.

Besides Mexico, we hear about many other countries as well...

The birth of a booming property market

Next Ronan McMahon took the podium. He gave us the details on a property market that's just at the beginning of a long boom.

Ronan has rubbed shoulders with global property developers through all of his adult life. During that time, he's built up a network of contacts that give him access to deals which most people aren't even aware of.

He briefed us about his recent trip to the northeastern coast of Brazil. He is convinced the next property boom is just starting to take place there.

“Two monumental events are converging onto this coast. You have foreign developers quietly buying up enormous tracts of beachfront. And you have a booming domestic economy, with many people buying second homes.”

“It's an incredibly fast moving market. One developer contact told me about a project that he had put on the market that morning.

“By the time we had lunch, 80% of the project was sold out. By the time I got back to my hotel room, all of the units were gone.”

Because the demand is coming from local buyers -- and from large European developers -- this property market isn't affected by the slowdown in the US.

Ronan described the exact areas along the coast worth buying a home or investment property right now.

One of the places is near a small fishing village. Here you can buy a newly built 1,100 square-foot beachfront home, in a planned development... for less than $100,000.

Ronan showed pictures of the area, and the restaurant they ate at. “The fishermen pulled a sea bass out of the net and gave it to the restauranteur. He then prepared it, and served it up for us at $9 a plate.” It was the freshest seafood he's ever had.

After Ronan's briefing, we heard about many other aspects of living or investing overseas...

How to spot the perfect hedge fund

Rich Luchsinger, has helped people invest since 1985. Today, he specializes in creating and managing offshore pension accounts.

In the past six years, emerging markets have beaten the U.S. markets each year.

And when you invest in the U.S., you are only investing in 45% of all the stocks and securities available. There's another 55% of investment markets outside the U.S.

And there are many hedge funds that take advantage of them.

In fact, Rich shows us a hedge fund that has less risk, less volatility and twice the return as the American markets.

It has less risk because in the past six years, it's dropped for only one month. (It was down only 5% and then went up again.)

Compare that to the U.S. markets which lost over 40% of their value and were down for nearly two years. In fact, it took the U.S. markets 4 years to recover.

In other words: If you had invested in this hedge fund just five years ago, today you'd have $4,234 for every $1,000 you put into it.

On the other hand, if you invested in the Wall Street's S&P500 companies, you would only have gained $49.

The reason this fund can make such returns is because it isn't restricted by the SEC.

You see, American securities are prevented by SEC regulations from taking advantage of opportunities outside the US... they can't move their money to safer markets when the US markets tumble.

But that isn't the case with hedge funds. They can easily move their investments into other markets when new opportunities come up. And more importantly, they can avoid investments where the markets are doing badly, like in the US.

For instance, last year was a bad investment time in many places around the world, not just in the US. Yet, the hedge fund I mentioned still made a 21% gain.

Amazingly, you can even use this fund in our IRA investment account.

But for many people, hedge funds aren't the first step to offshore investing...

The first step to offshore investing

At the Ultimate Event III we learned about every aspect of offshore finance... including how to use currencies and offshore bank accounts to make consistent profits.

Next to brief us was Gary Scott. He's spent 40 years in international investment banking... even managed a multi-million dollar portfolio for one of Austria’s leading investment banks.

Gary has a really simple strategy for making money in any economic situation. It consists of buying foreign government bonds with different currencies. He calls it the Multi Currency Bond Sandwich.

In short, he uses different currencies that are gaining in value against the US dollar, and uses them to buy government bonds in countries with strong economies.

Most people wouldn't think you can make a good return doing this. But Gary has been doing it for 20 years, and has helped many everyday folks become millionaires with this simple technique. The secret is in the fact that you're making gains on both the currency and the return on your bond.

He says it's the safest investment you could think of because you're only using cash to buy bonds.

Amazingly, in the example Gary showed us, you'd be making 17.26% using this strategy. And you'd by doing it while most people's investments are losing money.

The information here is priceless. We're getting advice on every aspect of an overseas lifestyle.

For some people for instance, the biggest concern is the deteriorating cost of living, and their lifestyle in the US.

America was once a land of promise. People from around the world emigrated in hordes. The economy was booming. It was a melting pot of nationalities. Anyone could become an American. And anyone could become rich if he worked hard enough.

But that isn't the case any more. Somehow, big government, big business, and special interests whittled away the lifestyle our parents took for granted...

Get your money out while you still can

When it comes to giving advice, Bob Bauman doesn't mince words.

“Get your money out of the US while you still can.” Bob spoke from a background of experience. He's been a member of the U.S. House of Representatives... a federal official and state legislator... and is a member of the Washington, DC Bar.

“You can't have personal freedom without financial freedom. And unfortunately, today there's a drift in America against these things... against freedom and against liberty.”

To avoid this situation, he described three legal ways we can protect our financial future -- by using an offshore Asset Protection Trust... a Private Family Foundation... or an International Business Company.

Each one protects your money in a different way, and gives you different benefits.

For instance, an Asset Protection Trust will defend your money from law suits and you can easily set one up for as little as $1,500.

If you like to have direct control over your money while keeping it offshore, then the best legal structure for you may be a Private Family Foundation. You can get one set up in Panama for around $2,000. And it's great for overseas investments because you can use it to get around SEC investment rules that prevent you from accessing many of the markets outside the US.

At this event we got the nuts and bolts to making an international lifestyle come true. I can't imagine how anyone could do it without knowing this information.

And now there's a simple way for you to get all of this information in the comfort of your own home. For example you'll discover...

How to buy in Panama at 50% off...

Jessica Ramesch flew here from Panama.

As far as she's concerned, Panama still has a lot of opportunity for anyone who knows where to look.

For instance, she told us about a place that's 10 minutes outside of Panama city where the government is auctioning off property at 50% reduced prices.

She's investigated the situation, and right now, there's one home on 2.6 acres coming up for auction. She estimates will go for $185,000.

Panama is still one of the most developed countries in Central America. Because of the Panama Canal, it has a long-time built up infrastructure. It is still one of the most popular tax havens...

Last year, the $5 billion canal expansion got underway. It will not only double the canal's capacity, but is expected to keep the country's economy booming for many years to come.

Following Jessica, other speakers showed us opportunities in different countries...

Tango dancing in the streets

Lee Harrison has lived in, and investigated countless countries in Central and South America before settling down in Uruguay.

As far as he's concerned, Uruguay gives you the greatest value without sacrificing your standard of living.

It's a first world country with all the amenities we're used to. It has a rich Italian and European influenced culture with beautiful architecture... and in the city park squares, it's common to see people dancing the tango in the evenings.

Uruguay is incredibly safe. Crime is nearly non-existent. You don’t have to worry about holdups, violence, or car break-ins.

Best of all, it's also a tax haven... you can easily take your money in or out of the country And you have the same property rights as local citizens.

Lee gave us the details about the four best places to buy property if you're interested in moving here, and you want to get the best value.

He also told us about the four best places to buy for rental income or capital appreciation.

One of the places is Punta del Este. It's a small town where Lee has decided to settle down himself. Many of his neighbors are affluent Argentinians who live there part-time and all speak fluent English.

The town has a year round population of 20,000. But from December to February, the summer tourist boom boosts the population to about one million.

How to retire in the next 6 months...

Lee Harrison also gave a very practical insight on how to retire early.

He should know, he retired at the age of 49. He wasn't particularly rich at the time. He liked his job, but felt there had to be more to life than working until retirement age.

According to Lee, there are many ways you can retire early, without saving until you've saved 'enough.'

For instance, you can use a SEPP to retire at any age. It's one of the exceptions where the IRS lets you take money out of your retirement plan before you're old enough to retire. Or, if you own a home, you could retire early, simply by using your current home equity.

Lee went over all of the logistics... including how much you would need each month to live in luxury.

“In Uruguay for instance, you can live quite comfortably on $1,500 per month. And I have a friend who is doing it on just $800 a month. I see him eating out in restaurants all the time, and he must be doing really well.”

Lee showed us that the secret to retiring early isn't to save up a lot of money. Instead, it's to do it as soon as you're able to.

“Sooner is better than later.

“When I retired and moved to Ecuador, what's the worst possible thing that could have happened to me? If I didn't like it, I could always go and get my job back. And keep working until I'm 65.

“But few people go back, or regret doing it. The one thing you hear most people regret though, is that they didn't do it sooner.”

Starting a new life overseas can often come with unexpected adventure...

When stealing isn't black or white

Developer Mike Cobb, has been doing business in Central America for years. He doesn't care about being politically correct and gives some very frank advice.

“There is a huge cultural difference between North and Central America.

“In North America, stealing is black or white. It either is, or isn't. In South America on the other hand, it's anywhere in between. Let me give you an example...

“My maid didn't steal... very much.

“Every day she'd go home, she'd take some dog food to feed her dog. To me, that's stealing. To her, that was okay.

“That's the difference between the two cultures. If you don't understand that difference when you come to Central America, you can learn it the hard way.

“On a personal level, it cost me some dog food. But on a professional level, it could make you bankrupt.”

The point is, if you're going to be doing business in Central America, double check everything. Don't take anything for granted.

Central America is a free, but unregulated place to do business.

You don't have 'Big Brother' watching over your shoulder. In your new country, the government won't necessarily regulate everything in your life like the Canadian or American governments do.

Instead, you have personal freedom. And with it, you have the responsibility to do your own due diligence.

For instance: You often hear that when you're buying property from a developer,  you shouldn't use their lawyer when they offer him to you.

But Mike's advice is different...

Use their lawyer. After all, he's already done all the paperwork for you. But hire another lawyer as well. And use him to check over everything the first lawyer is doing.

That's the way to make sure you're not getting a gray shade between 'right or wrong'...

It's the kind of advice you'd only get from a person who's had a lot of experience  doing business in this part of the world. It's the kind of advice that many people came to hear at the Ultimate Event III...
