How an abandoned IL magazine changed a reader's life forever...

I wanted to share what happened to me while at the “Live and Invest in Mexico” seminar in Merida last week. This was my first one of your seminars, but not my first time in Mexico. On the third and final day of the seminar, I awoke eager to attend the last fantastic day of information gathering and networking at the Hyatt. I felt a bit odd, thinking maybe I was just tired from all the activity. I went down to the lecture hall, hoping a spot of tea and some good company would help. I soon realized that I was having a lot more difficulty functioning than I had imagined. I was so shaky that I could not stand for long, and if I moved about, everything went spinning. I was seated at the back of the room trying to figure out what to do since I was attending the conference alone, and didn’t really know anyone there. I wasn’t even sure I could get back to my room, and was beginning to think my husband may have been right to be concerned about my traveling to Mexico alone for the conference. Just as these thoughts were beginning to really concern me, two ladies I had spoken to earlier in the conference, took notice of me during the break, and asked me if I was okay. Thank God someone might be able to at least make me feel not alone here! I told them how badly I felt, and they immediately got Dan Prescher who came to my aid with a suggestion of calling a doctor. I must admit I was a little reticent about this, but I took his advice, the ladies helped to my room, and within 20 minutes of the concierge calling for a doctor, one was knocking at my hotel room door! Amazing! This would never have happened in the U.S, of that I’m absolutely sure. The physician was polite, professional, and spoke English well, as my Spanish is practically nonexistent, so far. After a thorough checkup he proclaimed that I had an inner ear problem, no infection, just a little allergies, and with a huge smile on his face he stated, “I’ll give you a shot, and in 20 minutes you’ll feel much better!” That is what he did, and he was right. He wrote a prescription for more of the medicine to take every 6 hours until my ear problem improved. The bill, you ask? Fifty dollars, including the shot. Also, he gave me his cell phone number telling me to call him anytime day or night if I needed anything at all. Wow! I was even able to attend the wonderful poolside cocktail party that evening! Dan and Suzan have been writing about the great medical care in Mexico, but I have to say, after experiencing it firsthand, they are so right on. Thanks to IL and their great staff for an incredible conference in Mexico. It surpassed my expectations and is only the first of many I hope to attend. Both Carol and I have traveled much of the world and view each new destination with the anticipation of school children boarding the bus for yet another first day of school. That isn't to say we do not enjoy travel, but our anticipation seems to be tempered with a degree of "been there, done that." Cancun exceeded our expectations and we couldn't be more pleased with your choice of location.

I am sure that you will agree that location is the bright gift wrap that surrounds the event itself. This being our third IL event in less than two years, we climbed the stairs of the Americana Condesa Hotel with both eager anticipation and a degree of "please, don't be another necktie." As with the previous IL events, thankfully, each day greeted us with new and priceless gifts of knowledge that only your expat community could provide. Suffice it to say, "been there" never again crossed our minds.

We were briefly saddened when it was announced that Robert Chernick, CFO of the Liberty Cove project, had been detained and was unable to make his presentation in the general session. We joined his well-attended workshop and were delighted with the result. You, and Robert, must be applauded for A GREAT SAVE!

Much the same way that we view each new beach with a critical eye, a great share of my professional life has been spent staging and enhancing entertainment and business events, much like the IL seminars. Of the hundreds that I have been associated with, including many for America's largest corporations, I truly must say that International Living is a "class act." Bravo!
