UPDATE ON NEW ZEALAND'S IMMIGRATION RULES

Date: 08/02/2003

Dear International Living Reader,

More changes have been announced to New Zealand's Immigration Laws, effective immediately.

Although the Points System has not been scrapped completely, only those well-qualified for jobs which are available, and who are fluent in the English language will be invited to apply to be admitted as immigrants, preferably to live and work in provincial areas rather than in over-crowded Auckland.

For example, of the 20,000 Indians--mostly in Delhi--waiting to be admitted, less than half will now qualify.

Individuals with specialized skills, able to negotiate directly with potential employers who will then back their applications, stand the best chance of being admitted.

The new regulation will not affect the winner of the Napier City Council "Win a Life" competition, to be announced in September (see New Zealand Immigration Loophole--For One Family Only.)
