NEW ZEALAND IMMIGRATION LOOPHOLE-- FOR ONE FAMILY ONLY

Date: 05/28/2003

Dear International Living Reader,

Don't give up hope if you want to live in New Zealand but don't meet the Immigration Department's tough criteria (see: So You Want to Live in New Zealand?). There is a way for at least one family to move here--with the Immigration Department's blessing--even if NO criteria are met (although you will still have to comply with the work permit requirements.)

As the infrastructure in Auckland (the country's largest city) struggles to cope with its swelling population, many who don't have to stay in the city are leaving to search for a more relaxed way of life elsewhere on New Zealand's North Island.

In an effort to attract these people, and others, Napier city council is looking for an overseas family to help promote their east coast city. Airfare from anywhere in the world will be paid for the selected family, and they'll be provided with a furnished house, jobs, schooling, and a car, for six months (January through June 2004). If, at the end of the six months, the family wants to return home, return airfare will be paid.

However, if they wish to stay and have satisfied the authorities that they are "worthy citizens," the Immigration Department will welcome them as new permanent residents.
