You look out the back porch of your Caribbean hideaway, toward the palapa where last night's barbecue party took place. You can see the sea sparkling blue at the end of your stretch of beach. Can all this really cost less than $95,000? You bet.
If you’re looking for that perfect beach getaway, this is it.
This is somewhere you've heard me talk about before, a place where you can have your own slice of beachfront and a lovely little house, too. A quaint two-bedroom, one-bath, 832-square-foot cottage just the right size for a beach hideaway.
Between the house and the ocean is a palapa with a barbecue area, so you can sit and listen to the rustling of the palm trees while you grill a juicy steak and look out over the islands of Cayos Cochinos and the sparkling blue Caribbean Sea.
The cottages (two are for sale) sit on a lot 90 feet deep with 40 feet of beach. Each cottage costs $99,500. The last time I mentioned these cottages to you, the seller was swamped with queries, but no sales. So, I asked him to knock a further $5,000 off the price of each cottage, for International Living readers. He agreed…but only until Feb. 15. Each cottage, therefore, now costs $94,500…but only for the next week.
These homes are located between the sea and the backdrop of the cloud forest, offering its awesome ecotourism activities. You can head up the Cangrejal River for a canopy tour, some river rafting, horse back riding or hiking, and spend the afternoon enjoying a snorkel off your own beach.
This beach is about 20 minutes from La Ceiba (shopping, banking, and an airport), and close to hot springs, plus the Palma Real water park for the kids. I think this is a great area, perfect if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle, with views of the islands and the cloud forest.
