Health Care in Ecuador

Excellent Health Care in Ecuador at a Fraction of U.S. Prices

In Ecuador, you'll have access to excellent medical care. In the bigger cities, particularly Quito, Cuenca ,and Guayaquil, you'll find hospitals with state-of-the-art equipment, as well as specialists in all fields and physicians with private clinics. The average visit to a doctor's office runs just $20, with a specialist running about $25. An added bonus: Ecuadorian doctors spend 30 to 45 minutes with each patient.

As a general rule, you’ll find health care costs run from 10% to 25% of those in the U.S. Health insurance also costs a fraction of what you pay in your home country.

Dental work performed by highly skilled dentists is also widely available and inexpensive: partial plates for $320; complete sets of dentures for $1,200, including office visits, fittings, impressions, lab work, etc.

And don't be afraid of surgery: many specialists in Ecuador have trained in the U.S. or Europe and have top-notch skills. For example, a shoulder repair for a torn tendon is a two-hour procedure done under general anesthetic. Total bill for the operation, anesthesia, pre- and post-operative care, an overnight in the hospital, and all supplies and medications, amounts to just $2,130--about a quarter of the cost in the States. Excellent outcome, and follow-up physical therapy from an experienced therapist with a thriving private practice was just $15 a visit.
