Read more about Belize in International Living Postcards—your daily escape
I’m just starting a week-long vacation in Belize. The Belize-Mexico border is an easy drive from where I live in Mérida, and Suzan and I have tickets for the 2008 “Camp Belize” Jerry Jeff Walker concerts on Ambergris Caye. (I’m taking my guitar and planning to do a lot of hammock strumming on the beach next week.)
It’s been several years since I’ve been to Orchid Bay—a mixed residential and commercial project on the Bay of Chetumal outside the town of Corozal in northern Belize—but Phil Hahn, the developer of Orchid Bay, is a good friend of mine, and since we’re traveling by his place on the way to Ambergris Caye, he invited us to stop in and check on the progress of the huge and ambitious project that promises to be one of the cornerstones of northern Belize development for at least the next 10 years.
There’s also a “chill-out weekend” happening at Orchid Bay this weekend. I’ve heard a lot about these weekends, and I really want to see what they’re all about. I’m told they’re a relaxing and enjoyable way to get to know a specific project or a particular real estate market in detail (while the developer picks up most of your tab). IL’s preferred real estate marketer, Pathfinder, puts these weekends together. (The next dates for Orchid Bay are March 22–24 and April 18–20. Get details.)
I’ll let you know how it goes. Suzan has made it clear that this vacation is going to be different…that we’re definitely not working (much). But sneaking a couple of Postcards your way out of Belize couldn’t hurt, could it?
