Taiba, Brazil

My last report to you on Brazil’s northeastern coast was about property in the town of Cumbuco.
From Cumbuco, we traveled 30 miles up the coast to the next up-and-coming hotspot, the town of Taiba. This is where the European expats are starting to look—finding beach lots cheaper than in Cumbuco.
Taiba is bigger than Cumbuco and has more infrastructure and amenities. The cobblestone streets are pretty, there are many fine restaurants, and there wasn’t a soul on the white-sand beach while we were there. Overall, this town has a well-to-do feel about it. It’s also a bit too far for a day trip from Fortaleza, which means it doesn’t get crowded on the weekends.
Beachfront land here starts around $40,500, with lots averaging 450 to 600 square meters…for sale for about $90 per square meter. You can buy land just a block or two from the beach starting at about $70 per square meter. A little farther from the beach, this price drops to $30 per square meter.
Two new projects are in the works here, both offering units starting at $88,000.
An Italian developer is building Taiba Desire, which has 42 units ranging from 80 to 241 square meters. This project hasn’t been advertised anywhere yet. Prices are projected to run from $1,100 to $1,400 per square meter.
Taiba Beach Club is another five minutes up the beach and will start construction next year. It’s a front-line beach community slated for 72 fully furnished, two-bedroom, two-bathroom, 80-square-meter condos. The project will have all the usual amenities of a beach club--swimming pool, restaurant, and bar. Prices at Taiba Beach are set to run from $1,100 to $1,400 per square meter.
It’s worth noting that another project situated on the beach in between these two projects sold out pre-construction last year.

P.S. Fabricio brought us to visit a friend of his who lives in Taiba. We had a drink with him and his wife in their beautiful house right on the beach. They have six rooms for rent, each with a balcony overlooking the sea. It would be a perfect place to stay if you’re scouting for property in the area. Contact Fabricio for more information.
Editor’s note: In this month’s issue of International Living magazine, Lee Harrison writes about the miles of dazzling, white-sand beaches around Fortaleza. He tells you where to find a beachfront lot for $18,000, a 1,400-square-foot condo with an ocean view for only $187,000, and a village home for $20,000. Not a subscriber?
