Unspoiled beaches, quaint cobblestone streets, and a charming village center...Uruau, 50 miles east of Fortaleza on Brazil’s northeast coast, is quite a find.
Laura and I scoured the areas around Fortaleza in search of great deals, and we haven’t been disappointed. We’ve told you about $17,500 lots in Barra Nova and beachfront apartments in Cumbuco for $77,000...but, so far, my heart belongs to Uruau.
Driving through Uruau Village to a lively barraca on a beautiful stretch of white-sand beach, we passed a bustling market with trinkets and clothes for sale, a busy Internet café, goats roaming the cobblestone streets, and a small local hospital. After ordering the catch of the day in the barraca, we went for a quick swim in the clear waters, and then sat down to enjoy our meal while looking out at the local fishermen unloading their jangadas.
An hour later, I was standing on a cliff looking out at spectacular ocean views. With the white-sand beach just a two-minute walk away and sand dunes to the rear, this spot was simply breathtaking. This is the site of Bela Vista, a planned development of 24 condominiums. The development will have a swimming pool, barbecue area, fitness center, athletic field, and 24-hour security. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom 770-square-foot apartments will be fully furnished, and will have a spacious terrace and air conditioning. Prices start from €45,000 (approx. $70,000).
