Fiesta Americana Hotel Takes Part in Sea Turtle Release Program
Date: 08/14/2007The good news gets even better…
Just last week, we told you about the sea turtle releases at this time of year in Puerto Vallarta-when volunteers help return baby sea turtles to the sea from the major hotel beaches.
Now we've learned that the Fiesta Americana Hotel in Puerto Vallarta, where our Live & Prosper in Mexico seminar will be held next month, participates in the sea turtle release program-and attendees at the seminar can volunteer to take part.
Puerto Vallarta's beaches are a major breeding ground for several species of endangered sea turtles. From about April to June, female turtles lay their eggs on Puerto Vallarta's busy beaches-and to protect the eggs, conservationists dig them up, note the beach where they were laid, and incubate them in a safe environment.
But Mother Nature has strict rules…and one of these is that newly hatched turtles must enter the sea from the same beach where their respective eggs were laid. Thus arose the release program-and the opportunity for visitors to Puerto Vallarta to "give back" in a very special way. From July to December, at dusk, volunteers release into the sea all the baby turtles that have hatched in the previous 24 hours.
If you're with us at the Fiesta Americana September 23-25, we can't absolutely guarantee that there will be a baby turtle for you to release-after all, we're following Mother Nature's rules. But given the number of eggs each female turtle produces, the chances are…well, pretty darned good.

P.S. I've participated in these sea turtle releases in Puerto Vallarta before-one of my fondest memories of Puerto Vallarta-and I can't wait to do it again. I'd love to share the experience with you in Puerto Vallarta in September.
